IPTV Smarters vs TiviMate: an honest comparison
Published
Your subscription is just credentials. The thing you actually use every day is the player, and the two that matter are IPTV Smarters Pro and TiviMate. They are not close in capability, but they are also not interchangeable in where they run — which is what makes this a real decision rather than an obvious one.
The short answer
- On an Android device — Android TV box, Android TV dongle, or a Fire stick you are willing to side-load onto — use TiviMate. It is the better program by a wide margin.
- On anything else — iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Samsung or LG Smart TV, Windows, Mac — use IPTV Smarters, because TiviMate does not exist there.
Everything below is why.
Channel guide
This is the biggest single difference and the reason TiviMate has the following it does.
TiviMate gives you a proper grid EPG: a scrollable timetable across channels and hours, the way a cable box does it. You can reorder channel groups, hide the thousands you will never watch, merge duplicates, and set custom EPG sources per channel when a lineup maps badly.
IPTV Smarters shows a simpler now-and-next list. It is functional. It is not pleasant for browsing, and on a lineup of 18,000 channels, browsing is most of what you do.
If you watch live TV by flipping through a guide, this difference alone decides it.
Recording
TiviMate (premium tier) records to local or network storage, supports scheduled recordings from the guide, and handles series recording.
IPTV Smarters has recording on some builds, unreliably, and not on iOS at all — Apple’s restrictions make it effectively impossible there.
Multi-view
TiviMate premium shows up to four streams at once. If you watch several matches on a Sunday, this is the feature you will end up paying for.
IPTV Smarters does not offer it.
Interface and remote control
TiviMate is built for a d-pad remote first. Every function is reachable without a mouse, the long-press menus are consistent, and it feels like a TV app.
IPTV Smarters is a phone app that was stretched to fit a TV. It works with a remote, but you will notice the seams — particularly in settings screens.
Where each one runs
| Device | TiviMate | IPTV Smarters |
|---|---|---|
| Android TV box | Yes, Play Store | Yes |
| Fire TV Stick | Yes, side-loaded | Yes, side-loaded |
| Samsung / LG Smart TV | No | Limited builds |
| iPhone / iPad / Apple TV | No | Yes, App Store |
| Windows / Mac | No | Yes, desktop build |
| MAG box | Not applicable | Not applicable |
This table is the real constraint. TiviMate is Android-only, and no amount of preferring it changes that.
Price
TiviMate is free for basic use. The premium tier — recording, multi-view, multiple playlists, custom EPG — is a modest annual fee paid to the TiviMate developer. It is not connected to your IPTV subscription and we receive nothing from it.
IPTV Smarters is free. Some regional variants charge a small one-time activation.
Neither fee goes to your IPTV provider. Anyone telling you a player fee is part of your subscription is confused or misleading you.
So which one
Buy an Android TV box, run TiviMate, and stop thinking about it. That combination is the best IPTV experience available and it is not particularly close.
If your hardware is Apple or a Smart TV and you are not going to buy a box, IPTV Smarters is a perfectly usable player and millions of people watch on it daily. You are giving up the grid guide and multi-view, not the service.
If you are on a Fire stick — the most common IPTV hardware there is — you can run either, because both are side-loaded anyway. Run TiviMate.
Setting either one up
We have written a start-to-finish guide for each device, including which player to use and the specific problems that device tends to hit:
And if the picture stutters once you are set up, the cause is usually not the player at all.
